Another 2.5 inches of growth recorded Monday put the flower’s overall height at 36 inches.• Live Stream of ‘Corpse Flower’At peak growth, the plants have been known to increase in height by up to 6 inches per day.The plant “has been called the world’s largest flower, with a bloom that can grow to more than eight feet in height and four feet in diameter,” The Huntington said in a written statement. “It is a rare tropical plant native to the equatorial rainforests of Sumatra, Indonesia.”And it didn’t earn its nicknames with a pleasant aroma.“When in flower, it exudes a foul stench that smells like rotting meat,” the statement said. “For that reason, Indonesians call it Bunga Bangkai, which means ‘Corpse Flower.’”The flowers bloom only once every several years, and on an unpredictable basis, according to The Huntington. It lasts only a couple days.Once blooming begins, it usually takes several hours until the flowers fully open.To pollinate, staff then uses a paintbrush to dab up pollen from a male plant and applies it to the stigmas of the female flower.“The window of opportunity for this is roughly one day because on the first day after opening, the male flowers shed their pollen and the female flowers are no longer receptive,” according to The Huntington statement. “We do this to prevent autogamy, or self-pollination, so we can maximize the distribution of genes and maintain more adaptive genetic diversity.”The expected bloom will be the eighth at The Huntington since 1999. Most recently, people lined up to get a view, and a whiff, of the massive flower in July of 2019.The Huntington remains closed to the public to the pandemics, but a live stream of the flower can be viewed online at youtu.be/tm1MJD-Qq5E. faithfernandez More » ShareTweetShare on Google+Pin on PinterestSend with WhatsApp,Donald CommunityPCC- COMMUNITYVirtual Schools PasadenaHomes Solve Community/Gov/Pub SafetyPasadena Public WorksPASADENA EVENTS & ACTIVITIES CALENDARClick here for Movie Showtimes Make a comment Subscribe EVENTS & ENTERTAINMENT | FOOD & DRINK | THE ARTS | REAL ESTATE | HOME & GARDEN | WELLNESS | SOCIAL SCENE | GETAWAYS | PARENTS & KIDS Name (required) Mail (required) (not be published) Website STAFF REPORT First Heatwave Expected Next Week Home of the Week: Unique Pasadena Home Located on Madeline Drive, Pasadena Business News 15 recommended0 commentsShareShareTweetSharePin it
In this July 31, 2014 photo, Steubenville High School football player Ma’Lik Richmond poses during the team’s media day at Harding Stadium in Steubenville, Ohio. (AP Photo/Herald-Star)STEUBENVILLE, Ohio (AP) — A former Ohio high school football player found guilty of raping a 16-year-old girl after an alcohol-fueled party two years ago returned to the field Tuesday with his old team.Ma’Lik Richmond played for Steubenville High School in a scrimmage against Cambridge, WTOV-TV (http://bit.ly/1lSi5IV) reported.Richmond and fellow athlete Trent Mays were adjudicated delinquent in the August 2012 assault on a West Virginia girl. Richmond was sentenced to one year in juvenile detention and Mays, who was also found guilty of using his phone to take a naked picture of the underage girl, was sentenced to two years.Richmond, now 18, was classified as a Tier II sex offender last August, meaning he will have to register every six months for the next 20 years. Unlike adult sex offenders, Richmond’s name won’t be included on publicly accessible websites, and he can request to have the classification removed later based on his rehabilitation. The school’s football coach, Reno Saccoccia, said Richmond returned to school in January and was suspended from extracurricular activities for the remainder of the year. He told the TV station “it was a horrible crime,” but Richmond completed everything the judicial system asked of him.“We don’t deal in death sentences for juvenile activity, and I just feel that he’s earned a second chance,” Saccoccia said.Ohio High School Athletic Association spokesman Tim Stried said it is up to the school to determine whether a student athlete participates in sports. The school’s superintendent and athletic director did not return messages from The Associated Press.Walter MadisonRichmond’s lawyer Walter Madison declined to comment on Richmond’s status with the football team, but said in a written statement that “Band, debate, and sports teams reinforce critical lessons meant to guide one throughout life.”The case brought international attention to the small city of 18,000 and led to allegations of a cover-up to protect the football team.A grand jury investigating whether laws were broken in the case brought additional charges against six adults, including Steubenville’s then-superintendent Michael McVey. He and the district’s former technology director have pleaded not guilty to charges including evidence tampering and obstructing justice.Charges against four other individuals have been resolved.___Information from: WTOV-TV, http://www.wtov9.com

It’s not that people who succeed aren’t uncomfortable or fearful at first. The difference is that they face the fear and accept being uncomfortable. By putting themselves in positions that test their willingness and their resolve.People who grow and accomplish their goals are willing to be uncomfortable for longer periods of time than others. They hang in there longer than most. And, they move from one uncomfortable situation where they gain new capabilities and grow to the next uncomfortable situation where they stretch themselves even further. Instead of avoiding discomfort, they seek it out.Fear of the PhoneMaybe you fear picking up the phone and interrupting people. There are others right now who face their discomfort because they fear the greater danger of failing in their role more than the outcome of any single call. Those who are willing to be uncomfortable grow and become more effective over time.Fear of Your Higher PriceYour higher price makes you uncomfortable talking to your prospective clients about the investment they need to make. There are others who lead with the higher price because they have gotten past the discomfort and now recognize that it establishes greater value. They no longer see it as uncomfortable and they no longer fear that conversation. They have a distinct advantage because of their confidence.Fear Is Your Lack of ConfidenceYou were uncomfortable with the idea that you are a sales person, so you don’t ask for commitments for fear of being “salesy”. The greater danger that makes you uncomfortable is likely a lack of confidence. The only way to be comfortable doing what makes you uncomfortable is doing it until it no longer has that effect on you.
